Meet the Team

Dionna Kirk held on to her vision for Kirkwood Learning Academy when she made a commitment in 2006 to serving children. Earning a degree in social work, one of her goals was to help create permanent placements for Atlanta’s inner-city youth.

 

After several years of working as a foster care case manager for the state of Georgia, Kirk went on to capture a masters in school counseling. While obtaining her master’s degree, Kirk interned at Stonewall Tell Elementary under the direction of school counselor Deanna Shoyoye.

 

Upon completion of the program, she continued her pursuit of establishing safe places for the youth and discovered the earlier permanent places are created the greater the “trajectory of success” occurs for the youth. In the refinement of that trajectory, Kirkwood Learning Academy was birthed.
